The Chestnuts are Roasting...

I cannot wait for friday!

Not only is it Christmas Eve, but I will be on my way back to the mitten to celebrate Christmas with my family.

My mom and I have a movie marathon planned...Amtrak better run on time, I would hate for my movie time to be taken up with frozen train ride time.

I know it is only Tuesday, but it has been one long week. Last friday Mon Petit Chou (MPC) left to visit his family. It made for a very long, semi-lonely weekend that involved happy hippos and sappy movies on the day I didn't work.

To top it off I've had to work three days straight at 6:45am which means I have to be up at 4:45am. I am so NOT a morning person. I need my sleep! If the sun isn't up, I shouldn't be either. One more 6:45am day and one "normal" day before I head home for Christmas.

I CAN'T WAIT!

Oh, and I am thinking of cancelling my Facebook account. Why? Because I spend to much time on it. I really HATE the new "see friendship" feature. It shows me everything I don't want to know. I don't want to be able to see all the wall post between people. I really need to not use that feature.

I like ignorance. I am blissful there.

Christmas time is here, Happiness and cheer!

We are only 12 days away from Christmas!

Only 12 days left to enjoy Christmas movies.

Only 12 days left to shop at over crowded malls.

Only 12 days left to send Christmas cards.

Only 12 days left to bake (and eat!) Christmas goodies.

Only 12 days left to enjoy classic Christmas music without guilt such as:

This was yet another "fluff" post. I promise something more substantial in the near future!

Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad!

I am Harry.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day with friends and family!

Life can't get much better than parades, Holiday movies and pecan pie!

Miss you all!

My Thanksgiving gift to you all:

And Marshmallow Salad...

I think I've become an insomniac...

...again.

It had subsided for awhile, but this post is proof that I am definitely a "night owl". I find myself sitting at a kitchen table with a cup of tea, quietly tapping away on my computer.

Old habits die hard I guess!

During my night time contemplation, I have realized that this is the third year in a row I will not be going home for Thanksgiving. At first it didn't really bother me...I really could have made this year work if I had tired hard enough, but as I sit here thinking about it in light of recent events, it makes me really sad to not be going home.

I would love to wake up in my parents house and stumble down the stairs to the living room in footie pajamas and sit on the couch with a cup of coffee, homemade cinnamon roll and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

After a few hours of laziness, I would find a cute sweater to wear and pile into the car with my parents and brother to journey to our grandparents house where I would 1)make awkward conversation with a cousin I never see or 2) make awkward conversation with my odd Aunt and Uncle who think they have tons of funny cheese jokes. Either way, it would be strangely fun and familiar.

Then after the table was set and drink orders taken, I would stuff myself silly eating generous serving of my grandmother's Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and marshmallow salad followed by a sampling of every dessert available (but not pumpkin pie, I don't really like it!)

After finding myself 20lbs heavier and in such a state of food coma I wouldn't be able to function, we would proceed to the next step in Thanksgiving tradition and curl up on the couch with my mom and start watching our Holiday movies starting with "It's a Wonderful Life" while my dad and brother find ways to escape our slightly psychotic movie marathon.

It's weird to find that life has changed into something you never expected.

I just really want marshmallow salad and a movie marathon with my mom!

Good News From the East

Did you see who's getting married?

For some weird reason the news about Prince William and Kate Middleton's up coming marriage has me very excited. Maybe it's the ring, or the dress, or maybe the fact for the first time in over 300 years England will have a queen who is a "commoner". It's just kind of fun! What is it about Royalty that has us so captivated?!

The other good news coming from Jolly Ole England is the first installment of the last Harry Potter movie! I don't think I'll be going for the midnight showing, but maybe one day this weekend or next week...I actually have three days off next week, I'll have to fit it in!

CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!

I am also very excited for this movie:

It just looks so cute!

I know it's that time of year where we should be shopping for and thinking of others (and I am!) but I bought this for myself the other day:

I got a great deal! I literally only paid a fraction of the cost for it! It's green Amethyst with Diamond accents! The only problem is that it didn't come in half sizes so I had to get it half a size larger and it slips a little when I wear it!

We're just about a week away from Turkey day! I hope you all have fabulous plans and enjoy the company of your family and friends this holiday season!

**Update**
--The black tie event was amazing...I drank champagne ALL NIGHT!

--My last fish has died, I think I'm going to take a break from pets for a little while...

Top Hat and Tails

I am going to a "black tie" event this weekend kids.

I am so excited!

I'm working on finding jewelry and shoes to go with this dress from White House/Black Market:

Isn't it cute?

What am I going to do with my hair?

Tasty Kitchen

So I like to read recipes on Tasty Kitchen. I usually don't bother to attempt anything, but always manage to salivate all over my keyboard.

Well today I made this. Oh my goodness, it was so tasty. No wonder they call the site "Tasty Kitchen"!

Of course I didn't have ALL the ingredients so I used lemon juice instead of lime and instead of the suggested hot sauce I used some leftover chili sauce that came with some awful Chinese take out I had not too long ago. I also added some veggies: broccoli, onion, mushrooms and green beans. That being said, I don't know if I could ever make this dish according to the recipe because I loved my version so much! If you kids get a chance to cook this week try this dish and do it any way you want, I'm sure it will be fabulous!

Oh and randomness for the day:

I am LOVING this song right now:

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! Happy November!

Sure, Beaver, sure...

Have you guys ever watched an episode of "Leave it to Beaver"?

It's so disturbing.

First of all, they call their child "Beaver", who does that?

Secondly, the wife is a stay at home mother who apparently just vacuums and cooks, so she is really a glorified cleaning lady.

Thirdly, the "Beaver" and his brother say "Gee" ALL THE TIME!

How is this considered a classic?

It was so nice to be back in Michigan this past weekend. I wish I could have had more time to hang out with my favorite Michiganders! Grand Rapids is still as pretty as ever! I think it really is one of the prettiest places on the planet during fall! Congratulations to the TWO newly married couples!

Just Because

I'm wearing leggings as pants.

I know, bad, VERY BAD...but it's laundry day!

I'm only hanging around my apartment!

They're the only thing clean!

Gosh, if it wasn't so awful I would dress like this everyday! I'm so comfy!

I have no way to justify it...

Sorry for this VERY random post.

I use antlers in all of my decorating!

Ok, so I missed my post yesterday to celebrate the re-release of "Beauty and the Beast" but I do have an awesome link for you guys! Check it out and do some decorating of your own! (I am going to run out of paper with all the coloring I plan on doing!)

Now I need to run out and buy the DVD before it goes back in the vault! I missed it last time so this time is a must!

In other happy news, only 25 days until Halloween!!!!!!!!!

But sir, the castle is under attack!

Like Toi, I have been dying of a terrible cold.

I called off work two days in a row.

I'm still feeling a bit like the walking dead, but today my eyes haven't been constantly watering so things are looking up!

Sorry it's been a lone time since I've posted. Things in Chicago have been busy. It always seems busy. I think I am going to have to get a planner and schedule my days hour by hour so I don't forget to do things. You know, bathe, eat, new blog post...

This past weekend I was in MI for a funeral and a birthday party (Not for the same person!) In fact, I am still in MI. I love MI this time of year. It's so pretty. All the trees are such vibrant reds, oranges and coppers!!!

OH! Random happy fact!!!! Tomorrow, October 5th, Disney is re-releasing one of my all time favorite movies from the vault!!! Can you guess what it is? Maybe tomorrow I will do a *special* post of my favorite clips or lines!!!!

Well, that's it for now. I will try to update again soon. I don't want October to be the lost month that September was!

Pour vous...

I found this the other day. It made me laugh and I know it will give those of you who have studied abroad in France a good laugh too!

Confession

Ok kids, I've put it off long enough.

Are you ready for my deep dark secret?

(Alright, it's not really a deep dark secret since half of you already know it, but I haven't publicly announced it.)

Are you sitting?

Or standing?

Holding a stiff drink?

Maybe you can half sit/half stand and hold a drink...

I am seeing someone!!!!
I really like him, he's really sweet. I hope you all get to meet him soon!

Falling leaves...not quite!

Fall is in the air.

Have you noticed?

It is wonderful!

I am getting so excited thinking about scarves, sweaters, hot chocolate, rust colored leaves, hot apple cider and crisp sunrises. I've been so excited about the arrival of autumn that I even bought skinny jeans to tuck into my tall boots. I have NEVER owned a pair of skinny jeans, but I do now! Wow, Chicago really plays with your sense of fashion! I also bought a pack of Samuel Adams Octoberfest Beer (it just seemed appropriate!!!)

The only thing Chicago doesn't have is that quiet walk from the Carriage House to the Academic Building with a steamy beverage in your hands and leaves to crunch underfoot the whole journey.

Somethings are just irreplaceable!

Happy Pre-Autumn!

Failure to Launch?

A little while ago Moi posted a link to this article. Then a few days after that I saw this clip on a morning show.

So what's wrong with not wanting to grow up too fast? Isn't it better to know who you are and what you want before you end up in a dead end career or marriage? People are living longer than ever. If you marry someone at 20 you could be stuck with them for 80 years!!!! Even if you madly love them, 80 years is a long time.

Plus, there is the matter of finding a good job. Do you know how awful the job market is right now? How are you suppose to "grow up" if you are getting paid the same wages as a teen?

I think these "adults" are just a bit jealous of this new trend. They pushed us to take our time and figure out what we want, and now that we are taking full advantage of it they are envious.

What do you think?

Anyhow, not much is new here. I'm sad that we are at the end of August. This summer just flew by! I hope you all have a wonderful September!

Club 300

This is my 300th post!!!!!!

Crazy, right?

It's hard to believe I started this blog over 2 YEARS ago! Let's take a look at some of the things that have happened over the last two years:

  • I took an internship in DC, made some great friends, explored a great city and had a blast.
  • Took a couple of road trips to Pittsburgh and throughout PA with some pretty awesome people.
  • Moved back to MI.
  • Found a "job"
  • Moved to Chicago
  • Signed a lease on my very first apartment
  • Fell in love with a pretty cool city
Wow, in a two year span I lived in three different states!

I still feel directionless and have no idea what life has in store for me, but keeping an open mind and an open heart I know it will all work out.

Genius or Madness

I feel very connected to this guy.

I bet the people on the flight were awful, annoying, demanding, rude and inconsiderate.

Most people are.

I don't blame him one moment for wanting to get out of that plane ASAP.

I think maybe my job is making me jaded.

I hope something new, better comes along soon...

Blinded

I've lost my glasses.

Seriously, my apartment isn't that big! Where could they be?

I've checked under the bed, by the bed, in the bathroom, in the medicine cabinet, under the couch in my makeup bag and even in the kitchen.

Good thing I wear contacts during the day.

Bewitched

  • I am so jealous that Toi is on her way to London. I'm kind of glad to know she has blisters from her cute heels.
  • I found a new breakfast place: Tweet. It's pretty awesome. Their quiche is to die for.
  • I work a normal work with this week and will have two normal weekends this month. I am so excited.
  • This is how I feel right now.
  • Festivals in this town drive me crazy, mainly because it brings an insane amount of tourists to the city.
  • Bullet formatting is my friend when I'm being lazy.
  • I'm slowly learning Spanish, why didn't I take Spanish in College along with French?

Happy Friday! Oops, I mean Monday!

This past weekend was a bit insane, actually, my life is generally insane nowadays!

Friday I did a 25 - 30 mile bike ride through the streets of Chicago in what is called "Critical Mass". It was crazy and so much fun. I think the last time I rode a bike was 10 to 12 years ago. Boy, have I been sore the last couple days! Here's some video I've found of the craziness:

Saturday, I rode in an elevator with this guy and after a very long day of work, I met up with Aussie and hung out at Wicker Fest, which was very amusing. It was so nice to see Aussie! From there, I hopped a train to the loop and drank with my cousin until 5am.

Sunday was a VERY long day at work.

Today I am recuperating.

I need sleep, hydration and a good movie.

The Cork Test

I had one crazy weekend.

I was back in MI for a baby shower and a wedding shower.

With my family.

At least I earned two drinks out of it.

Ok, I didn't really earn them, but won them. Is it bad to bet on your family?

Anyhoo, my pregnant cousin is expecting a baby girl, or so the sonogram says, but the cork says differently.

What is the cork?

You've never seen this done?

Oh, silly friends, it is classic!

You dangle a cork from a string above the belly of a pregnant woman and it can tell you if she is having a boy or girl. A spinning cork is the sign of a girl and a back and forth motion indicates a boy.

It's not really scientific, but my mother claims it correctly predicted both myself and my brother.

So we will see if my cousin really has a little girl. It could be very amusing if she has a boy instead, she received lots of little pink clothes!

Scum of the Earth

Today I learned a very valuable lesson:

I am solely responsible for the temperature of my work place (according to a little old lady it's too warm) and I am to blame for the lining color of Coach handbags.

Feel free to rant and scold me.

But you might have to take a number and get in line.

Maybe bring a snack.

It's going to be quite a wait.

The Oracle Business

Alright, who followed and watched the World Cup?

Anyone?

I did...kind of.

I was more interested in it when I heard about this little guy.

Yep, I was only interested when an eight legged sea creature was involved.

What can I say? Sports need gimmicks for me to pay attention, that, or seats to a live game with beer and a hot dog!

Life here has been crazy. I had a friend from High school in town this weekend and we had a blast. I bought two dresses to wear home for the baby and wedding showers at the end of this month. (I promise more to come on that, as always, with my family there are tons of stories to share!)

We also saw Billy Elliot: The Musical and I surprisingly wasn't too disappointed. I love the movie, so I went knowing that it wouldn't be as good and was very pleased. To top off the weekend we did the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise and learned tons about the city and it's architecture! As always, visits from friends are always too short. I wish weekends were much longer...

"The Claaawwww!!!"

This has been the summer of sequels. Alright, every summer is the summer of sequels, but this summer I have seen more than my fair share of them.

My latest movie experience was "Toy Story 3" and let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. It was very cute, funny and a great ending to a memorable series.

I don't want to ruin the movie for you, so I will just suggest that you all take a rainy afternoon and treat yourself.

Monday Update

I'm thinking I will start updating once a week on Mondays.

We like Mondays, right?

The start of the work week, the end of the weekend...

Ok, we don't like Mondays.

Very bad idea, forget I said anything.

But I *do* need to update more.

I hope everyone had a fantastically patriotic 4th of July filled with grilled food, drinks and fireworks. I managed to escape the city for a few hours and head to Plainfield, IL where we drove on part of old Route 66 and nearly got lost in a cornfield. It was amusing, especially when some shouting and scolding was done in Spanish. Not at me, but at the navigator. Can anyone tell me why I didn't take Spanish classes in High School and/or college?

After several hours of food, sun and pool I found it extremely difficult to head back to work today. Unfortunately, my place of employment doesn't feel the need to observe in anyway, shape or form National Holidays. Weird, right?

One day I will have a real job.

One where customers wearing black rhinestone tank tops with blue velor pants don't come in and call a $400 purse tacky. (I wanted to hand her a mirror and tell her to take a look at herself. It was the pot calling the kettle black!!!!)

Happy summer, I hope you all enjoy the warm weather! (My friend Jerry does too!)

Goin' to the Chapel...

Ok, I first wanted to post this photo because of the awful bridesmaid dresses. I don't know where to start on them, the color, the length, or even the strapes but as I was gazing into the horror of salmon pink satin I discovered a few other things that bothered me.

1. The shoes. They all had to wear the same dress, but could wear different shoes? That makes no sense.

2. The man is wearing a matching flower! Not only are our eyes being burned by that horrid color that is found on every bridesmaid, but the poor guys also have to wear it!

3. The flower girl is PICKING her nose! Ewww...!

You seem unhappy. I like that.

I had another celebrity sighting today!!!!

It was this guy. You know, from "Scrubs"!

I am sure he thought I was crazy as I stared at him while I tried to place him. His face was so familiar!

I swear, the only thing that keeps me from going crazy at work is knowing that I could see someone famous.

Morning, Miss Alice. My watch is...

I have a new favorite movie.

Wanna guess what it is?

No?

Ok, I'll tell you then: "Bringing Up Baby" starring Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant.

OMG! It is fabulous!

Anyhow, I have been crazy busy lately. Toi visited last weekend. We had a blast. I have an awesome picture that I will share at a later time, hopefully by the end of the month.

The "alien in the carpet" story is completely true. I do have new details concerning that silly little creature: he can magically disappear with the use of a vacuum. Yep, that's right, just a vacuum makes it disappear.

I think the weird thing about the whole situation is that it has happen twice.

My mother visited this weekend. We had fun. One night she knocked over a drink, we watched the carpet suck it in incredibly fast and the next morning we vacuumed it away.

I'm sad we've found a solution. I would have loved for the Doctor to visit!

Lack of Imagination

I have seen Sex and the City 2 two times in three days. I can't see it again. Seriously, how does one end up seeing the same movies two times in three days? I'll tell you how...

First you make plans with a cousin to see in the near future. Then you go out with a friend for happy hour/dinner and it turns into a girls night out and you see the movie with her. Because you made the plans with the cousin your mother bribes you to see it again to avoid any family friction and you have to see it again.

I can't see SATC2 ever again. Not even on DVD when it eventually comes out. I've seen enough to know I've seen too much. Plus, seeing/hearing Liza Minnelli sing "Single Ladies" one more time might actually kill me.

Did you all see the Larry King interview with Lady Gaga? I feel like Lady Gaga and I could be friends or sisters. I especially related to her answers on religion:

The only thing that really bothers me about Lady Gaga is knowing that we are the same age and she has accomplished so much and I've accomplished nothing...

Anyhow, I am so excited to Toi's visit. I may actually explode. But I'll try not to. I don't think Toi would be happy picking up little pieces of me in Union Station.

Gooci? L.V.?

So, a funny thing happens to me at work. I am asked all the time for specific designer handbags, Dooney and Bourke, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and others and I just direct them to the correct floor.

Fairly simple, right? But what about:

"Gooci?"

"L.V."

"Gucky?"

"Lee Vee?"

Apparently Gucci and Louis Vuitton are really hard to say. After I figure out what the guest is trying to say I become an incredible snob (I try not to, but it's so hard) and say to them:

"Do you mean Gucci?"

or

"Do you mean Louis Vuitton?" (I may not speak French fluently but I can say Louis Vuitton like a Frenchman!)

It's so awful, but I would really like to know why they are looking for a brand they can't even pronounce!?

I feel like I am dealing with this:

Except my inquiries do not come from someone as adorable as James Franco. He could mispronounce it all day and I'd be fine with it!

It is a truth...

  • "...universally acknowledged that when one part of your life starts going okay, another falls spectacularly to pieces." -Bridget Jones
  • that I've spent half of my beautiful day off job hunting.
  • that I love this bullet point format.
  • there is nothing, I mean NOTHING to eat in my apartment. I'm going to have to go shopping, a girl can't live on coffee alone for more than a week or two...
  • No matter how hard I try, I am always wrong.
  • the general public is crazier by the day...
  • people judge too quickly.
  • I am in need of a tan, but too scared of skin cancer to go in the sun without sun block.
  • I am sick of wearing black to work EVERYDAY.
  • that I only seem to update this blog when I'm in a crabby mood.

Stop talking to me when I'm cross...

I just finished the latest episode of Doctor Who: "Amy's Choice" and I have to admit that I think it was one of the funniest of the season. I literally was laughing out loud at some points. Maybe it was just me...

Maybe I'm just in a dark mood so, things that shouldn't be funny are.

Like the new show I love.

Dead Like Me.

Ok, it's not new, but it is funny. I just can't stand George's mother.

(I know this post had a point when I started to write, but when I actually started typing all of this gibberish came out...)

Now, I really want to start talking about depressing things, like the lack of direction in my life, but I just can't put you all through that so I'll call it quits and hopefully be more inspiring at a later date.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

A life in bullet points:

  • I was yelled at yesterday because someone on another floor left a sensor on a coat and I had to take it off. How is that my fault if I'm fixing the problem?
  • A group of French people told me my French was fantastic. I think they were just being nice.
  • I love rainy days.
  • I hate knowing bad things about other people.
  • Small towns are too small.
  • Vodka is absolutely lovely with cranberry juice.
  • I love dresses and skirts.
  • I think we are disconnected by being so connected. Seriously, do we need to be on a phone or listening to music ALL the time?
  • Chivalry is dead.
  • Tights and leggings make me very happy.
  • I want to see this movie:
  • I found a new way to style my hair that I actually like.
  • Fog is fun.

Une autre année...

I'm 24.

I'm 24.

I'm 24 and I just don't believe it. Why do we grow old? When does it stop? And when do we get from life what we want? (And why does some annoying brat named Dolly share my birthday? - sorry, long story)

Ugghh...

I shouldn't be allowed to know my birth date. It always depresses me when another year passes and my life isn't what I want it to be.

Anyhow, this video makes me laugh. It also makes me want a bunny:

Did you know I had bunnies once? Opie and Anna, I loved them, but one day they died...

Wow, I think I am going to stop writing before I depress you all.

Clang, clang, clang went the trolley...

The CTA has been keeping it interesting the past few days.

Well, maybe I shouldn't say the CTA, but the people riding it.

Yesterday the buses were packed, PACKED, when I grabbed one home from work (the sunshine brings out the crazies). On my very packed bus ride I got to hear the tale of a divorce. Picture it, me (practically sitting on the driver's lap) smashed in the window and only a couple of people from a giant windbag who felt the need to discuss the legal proceedings of his divorces with some friend on a very crowded bus. At least it was entertaining, if not very disturbing. Especially, when I got a look at the guy and he was overweight, balding and wearing a very large gold chain necklace. No wonder the first wives left him...

Today was equally entertaining.

Once again (in the middle of the day I might add) the buses were really crowded. To add to the crowded bus there was two people in wheel chairs and neither one of them knew where they wanted to get off, so they keep yelling at the driver "Not this stop, the next stop!" (This happened for about 4 or 5 stops) When the first guy realized where he wanted to get off he got stuck because the side walk didn't go all the way to the street. He was stuck on the bus ramp and in the grass. Eventually, some of the passengers near the doors got him out.

My final bus ride was equally entertaining when at a bus stop a passenger felt the need to yell at the bus driver for no apparent reason, telling him to call his manager. She accused him of not doing his job, which as far as I could tell he was.

I just feel bad for the drivers. The general public is crazy. Seriously, people are insane, impractical and stupid. Sorry, it's not a positive generalization, but it's true. Sometimes the truth hurts...

Land of Lincoln

The other day I realized that I knew nothing about my new state besides the fact that it is nicknamed "The Land of Lincoln".

Sad, huh?

So I did a little research and found a few fun things:

-- Three presidents have been residing in Illinois when elected to office (Lincoln, Grant and Obama)

-- The state bird is the Northern Cardinal

-- Several former Governors have been brought up on corruption charges (including Blagojevich)

--The word "Illinois" is a modern spelling of the French explorers word for the people of Illinois. (Alini8ek being one of the original spellings meaning "the men")

-- The Associated Press determined that Illinois is the "most average state" (I believe it, it is pretty average most the time)

-- There is more to the state than Chicago, but no one talks about it.

It's so weird calling myself a resident of this state. I guess a part of me will always reside in MI. After all, Illinois doesn't have this:

or this

or this

But it is still pretty fun. They even hosted the world's fair! I guess I will have to give IL a little more time. You should too! Check it out here!

Happy Birthday Moi!!!!!

Les enfants

I have a confession.

It's kind of scary.

Are you ready?

I've been thinking about kids lately. Not the "keep your small jam hands off the glass" thoughts, but the "maybe I would like a baby of my own".

I'm not going to lie, it the first time I've felt like I would actually like a kid of my own. It is terrifying.

I even find myself asking new moms how old there little ones are and making polite conversations about babies. THAT IS NOT ME! I have never been that girl before. What is happening to me?

Then, I read this article. If I want to have a kid I have to do it soon. How am I going to do this? I can't even find a nice guy, or a good job!!!!

I hate being an adult and thinking about these things. When did this adult thing happen and how do I make it stop?

Earth Day 2010

Happy Earth day!

Did you know today marks the 40th anniversary of Earth day? Cool, right? In celebration of Earth day I have a few quotes to share:

And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything. ~William Shakespeare

Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. ~Cree Indian Proverb

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. ~Native American Proverb

Today, I hope you take a moment to enjoy our planet!

I was once voted the worst audience participant Cirque Du Soleil ever had.

I love H&M.

I even bought this dress for Easter from them:

I really love it, and I received lots of compliments on it. It's so much fun! You can hide things in the sleeves!

I was feeling especially positive about the purchase when I saw this ad:

Cool, right? I love being green! I use public transportation, reusable shopping bags and a reusable water bottle. I am Miss Green. Then I read THIS story.

I can't believe H&M is in the company of Wal-Mart. WAL-MART!!!??? What are they thinking? I can't shop at a place like that! I am really, really sad.

Obsessed?

I think I need a new job.

My current one is breaking me, both mentally and financially.

I keep finding things I want to buy! Today's find:

Isn't it cute? It is absolutely huge, I love it!

I also love this one:

I have a thing for cross-body bags.

Oh, and this one:

Which is also adorable, and cross-body (but I can't find a good picture. Trust me, it is adorable!)

Why is it that handbags are so tempting? Don't even get me started on shoes!!!!

Mamma Mia!!!

I have had one of those days.

You know, one of THOSE days.

The kind where it would have been best if you never got out of bed.

Ok, not totally, I think I gave directions to James Taylor. I swear it was him, or someone who looked a lot like him. Does he have a twin?

The rest of it was total crap.

People trying to feel me up, boys making me walk over them...

I am never wearing a skirt or dress again.

That's a little drastic.

Maybe I can find a nice Amish girl to make me an outfit. That would solve all my problems.

Le Vendredi Saint

Happy Holiday weekend!

I will be traveling home to MI tomorrow and I find myself really confused about this trip.

I am excited to see my parents and brother and friends, but have no desire to see other members of my family or deal with the questions I know will be waiting for me when I get home.

"Are you seeing anybody?"

"How's the job search?"

"What do you do in Chicago?" (seems weird, but I will be asked that)

It seems easier to love my family when they are far away.

Does anybody else feel like that or is it just me?

Pushing Daisies

Kids, I have sad news.

Mr. Rambo has died.

I have no idea why. I guess it was his time to go.

It's par for the course this week.

At least today was sunny and warm. I even put my toes in the lake today. (It was cold!)

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile.

Do you ever feel very confused about the direction your life is taking?

I do.

ALL the time.

Most the time I find myself thinking "What the hell am I doing here?"

I've decided I am "an anywhere but here girl". I always need to be going, or doing something other than what I am actually doing.

Ok, sorry for that little "Emo" outburst.

I went to see "How to Train Your Dragon". It is very cute. I was a little skeptical of it and had very low expectations so that is probably why I was impressed as I was. I was just so happy it wasn't a sappy love story of any kind.

Through the Rabbit Hole

Today I treated myself to the movies.

I went to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland in 3-D. I don't really care for 3-D. It seems like such a gimmick, but I wanted to go to the 2 o'clock show so that is what I got. The movie was pretty and visually interesting and had all the classic signs of a Tim Burton film, but for some reason I really wasn't into it. I think it was the ending. Or the fact that the movie didn't surprise me in anyway.

I was happy to see Crispin Glover. You know, this guy. From Back to the Future!!! But he looks more like this now.

In sad news, I think I might be Lactose Intolerant. I am choosing to ignore it. I love cheese too much to think about it. Plus, wouldn't it be weird for a farmer's daughter to NOT drink milk?

Introductions...

Thanks to your suggestions I would like reveal the names of my fish:

Mr. Rambo Cheng Rosencratz and Mr. Buttercup Eng Guildenstern

Wow, such big names for such little fish. I will provide pictures soon. That is if they every stop swimming for me to do so. Maybe I can bribe them with fish flakes?

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue fish...

Alright.

I need help.

What should I name my new little guppies? I have two of them, both boys. They are crazy. They spend most of there time swimming in circles, except when I walk into the kitchen when they begin their dance for attention. Seriously, they look like small children looking for attention from a parent. They dive, and twist and flip. It's a little too human for me...

Anyhow, back to what I was saying, they need names. Help me! What should I call them? I'm leaning towards Flotsam & Jetsom but it's so unoriginal.

In other news:

Well, there is no other news. Just work, and more work, and looking for a job that doesn't make me want to pull my hair out.

Buyer's Remorse

So today I decided I wanted a fish.

I researched tanks.

I picked out the kind of fish I want.

I went to the pet shop and bought everything but the fish.

Half way home I was regretting my decision. My mind began to race:

---What if I'm not allowed to have a fish in my apt?

---What if it dies?

---What am I suppose to do with it on the weekends I'm away?

But then, two stops from home, an old man fell getting on the bus. It was a big production. He couldn't get up, I was sure he was dying. So I jumped up and out the back and walked quickly home. A fish is a minor thing when old men are dying. I hate it when people decide to die around me. It really freaks me out. It seems to happen a lot. Note to the world: I am not a physician and can NOT help you, so find somewhere else to die. I will run in the other direction.

I have the tank set up. This weekend on my three days off I will go pick up the fishy!!!!!

Psychologically, I'm very confused... But personally, I don't feel bad at all.

I recently rented a little film called "The Shop Around the Corner". Have you ever heard of it? Well, it just happens that it was the inspiration for "You've Got Mail". "The Shop Around the Corner" stars Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan AND it takes place in BUDAPEST!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know about you, but I find Budapest much more appealing than New York!

Both movies are very cute, but I have to admit that the original won me over, it is so cute and funny. I don't know why Hollywood remakes things, it should just re-release the wonderful classics they have sitting in the vaults.

Oh, and by the way, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics are only HOURS away. I am so excited. This is the only time I am patriotic. I swear, I am ready to break out the red, white and blue!!!!!!!!

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!!!!

Ah, a day off.

I slept in.

It was so nice.

But it wasted half my day...

I can't complain, I bought a programmable coffee maker today. You know what that means?!!! It means tomorrow morning when I have to get up way too early my coffee will be ready and waiting for me. I am so excited. I hope I set it right!

To add to my happy day, I received a free latte from Starbucks, and because they forgot to make it at first they gave me a second shot!!!! Yum!!!!!!

Do you remember when I was keeping a tally of the marriages and children in my high school graduating class? Well, I have news of two more engagements and EIGHT more kids!!!!!! What is going on here? What is in the water in MI?

Dance!

So I just bought the best of Brigitte Bardot.

She was a french star of the 1960's.

She can't really sing, but it's fun music and Brigitte seems like lots of fun. Plus, I think I recall seeing a special on her when I was in France. That, or my host mother had tried to convince me I had heard of her when in fact I hadn't so she went into deep explanation of who she was.

And that video makes me think of this video:

Gotta love Audrey!

The dove's cry...

I am really sick of men jacking off on public transportation. I really don't appreciate it, especially when they look at me while doing it. Ewww....

I also don't appreciate people asking me about my hickey-like-birthmarks. So I have birthmarks on my neck. Get over it already people!

OH, and telling a stranger that your husband is "ogling them" is not a good thing. Somethings should just be kept to one's self.

Wow, it was a crazy day in the city.

I think I will spend the night with Ben & Jerry and a good movie. I can't handle the general public anymore.

"At least someone appreciates the fact that I am doing and not thinking. "

My parents came to visit this past weekend. It was nice to see them, but makes me appreciate the fact that I live on my own. It's so weird to me to think that I am an adult, living on her own. When did that happen?

In other news, I am officially an Illinois resident. I even have a brand new license to prove it! My picture is even kind of good! Looking at it I realize that my hair is getting really long. It's kind of dark too. Hhmmnnn...

Can you believe that January is almost over? I can't! Where is 2010 going!!!!!!!!?????

Mr. Pitiful

I have discovered a new singer/song writer that I love. Matt Costa.

Have you heard of him?

Well, if you haven't consider this a formal introduction.

I was watching "The Answer Man" and noticed Costa's song "Mr. Pitiful" and now I am obsessed. His music makes me happy!

I am noticing that more and more I appreciate artist who can write and perform their own music.

Enjoy!

A Little Love

I am reading Julia Child's book "My Life in France" and I love it. It makes me miss France.

I love free days.

I love my calender for 2010. It's a picture a day calender of France. Today is a picture of the arch ways in Carcassonne!

I love that there is a board game based on this silly little walled city!

I love coffee. I've had several cups today!

I love that it is 32F today and I can walk outside without several layers!

I Love NPR!

I love my 180's!

One More Slice?

I had visitors this weekend.

One of them all the way from Sweden!!!

I felt sooooo special!

We had a great time together!

We ate too much. Drank too much and had too much fun.

We must do it again soon.

Wind in the City

The past few days in Chicago have been confusing. I just don't understand the city or some people.

One old lady pat my butt at work the other day.

Another customer gave me a hug.

The train doors froze and wouldn't open. A drunk man threw up at the doors that did work. Yuck!

Everyone has Wednesday afternoons off in this city.Good luck trying to find a seat on a bus before rush hour not to mention DURING rush hour.

I look "cute" when I wear pants. Apparently, when I wear skirts I look like a bum?

Double or nothing, Colossians 3:12.

Today I had a celebrity sighting. A very exciting celebrity sighting.

VINCE VAUGHN!!!!

He was just hanging out on my floor chatting it up with some old guy.

He is tall.

Very tall.

And pretty cute.

Sometimes I really love Chicago.

A Few Distractions...

I need to be cleaning my apartment.

But it's soooo boring.

So I've decided to share a few random facts.

The life expectancy of Americans is 77 - 80 years. That is just too short for me so I will be moving to Canada or Australia where it is 80+.

Did you know that the farm at Versailles has harvested coffee beans? Yummm...I kind of envy Marie Antoinette in a weird way. Wouldn't it be cool to grow your own coffee?

I am annoyed that the skating "rink at Wrigley" is in the parking lot next to the park. Who wants to skate in a parking lot?

I don't trust people who don't eat meat, or fois gras for that matter...

Watching golf on TV is boring. I'm kind of happy Tiger Woods is in trouble. Now, hopefully it can only be found on ESPN.

I kind of love this movie. I would love to fall into a Jane Austen book.

I am really excited for the new season of Doctor Who. I was sad to see David Tennant go, but the new guy seems fun!

I must go finish cleaning...Yuck!

Be Italian...

Happy New Year!!!!!

I am so happy 2009 has passed. It was a bad year. It started out really crappy. I have a feeling that this year is going to be great. Really great!!!!

To celebrate the new year I went to see "Nine". It was good. Very pretty, great music, and a very talented cast.I actually like Daniel Day Lewis in the film. Usually he just annoys me. The only thing was when the film ended I felt something was missing. What? I don't know, but something. I wish I could see the stage show to compare.

There is a "secret" engagement in my family. That's right, a cousin YOUNGER than myself is going to get married. Golly, what is wrong with my family.

Remember this movie? I just got it from Netflix. C'est très amusante!
