5 Golden Rings

I am really, really, really hoping for a white Christmas. If the weather doesn't cooperate with us I may go Bing Crosby on everyone.

That would not be a pretty picture.

I hope you all are having a great holiday season!

I can't wait to be back in the mitten state (the real mitten state, don't even try Wisconson)!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

I have a feeling 2012 is going to be a GREAT year!!!!!!!

"Would it be indecent to ask the grandparents to stay at a hotel? "

Oh, hello there!

Yes, I know, it's been a while.

It's holiday time and once again I am going crazy. I truly, truly hate my job this time of year. I just don't understand people fascination with big city shopping and dealing with crowds. Thank God for the internet, now, I can be a recluse and do my Christmas shopping!

One day I will figure out how to be a proper hermit...

In other news, Chicago has remained dry and fairly warm so far this winter, meaning it doesn't really feel like Christmas is coming even though the calender says so.

I just need to get through the holidays. I have a feeling 2012 is going to be a great year! Especially when my life can get back to normal!!!!!!!

Until then, this is me:

Big City Living

I think MPC is trying to kill me, he made me borrow and ride a bike yesterday and now I want to die. My butt hurts so much. It makes me so grateful to have a job that requires standing instead of sitting.

The good news from this adventure is that we got to take in the lake front and ride the bike trail from my apartment all the way to Navy Pier, which was very cool. It's so pretty. I can't believe July is nearly over and soon fall and winter will be here.

Vault 687

Today I went to see the final Harry Potter and now I am so thoroughly depressed that the HP books and movies are done that I am watching a marathon of all the movies from the beginning.

It's going to be a long night...

Sunburns and sunglasses

Summer is really here! I love it! I can't believe the city is finally warm again! I actually have a tiny bit of a tan! Ok, it's more like a burn/glow thing going on, but I will take what I can get!

Have you all seen this? I love editing my photos there! It's free and AMAZING!!!!!!

Have you all been by to visit my new home? If you haven't, you should. I am having a great time sharing new photos on a daily basis!

I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July! I spent my day at the beach. It was heavenly!

Happy July!!!!!!

Turn the page

I have started a new blog.

It was time.

My new blog is here.

My goal is to upload a new picture everyday of the city, and maybe a few observations, but all of it will be city related, I plan on keeping this one for everything else. I promise to try and update on some kind of regular basis, but as we all know, life gets a little crazy sometime.

If you get a chance, visit my new home, it's brand new, only has two posts, but I think it's going to be fun!

Pure Michigan

I spent the weekend in Michigan, now I am a tiny bit home sick and wish I could spend my whole summer in the Great Lake State.

Oh, and 14 days left...

How can you read this? There's no pictures!

Last night, in all my wisdom, I met a friend for margaritas and guacamole. It was quite yummy, but left me dreaming the weirdest things, EVER!

First, I had a dream that Las Vegas was actually in Wisconsin, so I was determined to go because it was so close. But somehow, Nevada was also in WI, like some kind of giant worm hole moved Nevada into WI without displacing the rest of the country, it was weird.

Then, I had a dream that I was in my bed at my parents house, but I woke up in my Chicago apartment. It was surprisingly depressing. I guess it means I really need to make a visit to MI and catch up with my family and friends.

That, or no more guacamole and margaritas right before bed time.

In other news, MPC's family is here, visiting, for a MONTH...

Ya, a whole month, it's been interesting so far, only 22 more days to go... (yes, I am counting the days)

I hope you all have a wonderful summer, full of sun, sand, tans, drinks, food and happiness!

That Thing You Do

My parents were here this past weekend. It was fun having them in town and to be a tourist in my own city for a little bit, it reminds me that this city is pretty cool and has some fun stuff to offer.

We spent a day at the Museum of Science and Industry on Saturday and wore ourselves out! We followed it up with dinner with my cousin and our first tasting of Corned Beef and Cabbage.

That's right.

I swear we are the only Irish people on this planet who had never had Corned Beef and Cabbage before. I have no idea why it took so long, but I can say that I liked it! Do I really have to wait a whole year to try it again?

Happy Spring! I hope you all have beautiful warm weather! Enjoy!

Some People Want to Fill the World with Silly Love Songs...

I had the most amazing Valentine's day ever!!!!!!!

Really!

MPC surprised me with a night here along with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.

I was blown away, totally shocked, honestly.

The view was amazing! It's fun to see the city from a new perspective. It was also great to have a nice little "get away" with my sweetie.

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's day!

What's wrong with the way I talk? What's the big idea? Am I dumb or something?

We had a blizzard.

Now we have lots of snow.

I wish I had a yard to make a snow man.

I'm finding that weekends suck.

Is there a way to skip them?

Just to the West

This past weekend MPC and I took a mini-break out to St. Charles, IL. It's just west of the city in the "Fox Valley" area, meaning everything is named after the Fox River. It was kind of worrisome to see so many things named after a furry little mammal.

It was so nice to escape the craziness of the city just for a little bit. I knew I wasn't in a real city the moment we hopped in the cab at the train station and the cabbie greeted us with a "Yo, what's up?" and had a rock station playing. I had a feeling he might have been high, but he was nice and didn't smell funny like so many of the Chicago cabbies so it was a welcomed change!

Without any public transportation we walked a few miles downtown and back during the day on Saturday and managed to catch a lovely windburn on my face! That night we went to a sushi place that featured a floating sushi bar and a very crazy chef. It was fun and the food tasty!

The sushi would just fly by on cute little boats! I couldn't take a clear picture for the life of me!

It was so yummy! I love sushi!!!!!!

After the sushi we hit up a cute little bar, met the owner, who gave us free root beer shots and I discovered this fabulous Lambic beer!

We had a great time and I wish that weekends could be longer!

Can you tap dance?

Seen any good movies lately?

There are a lot of Oscar contenders in theaters, including this one:

Looks interesting, right? I'll bet you've read a review or two, and have heard good things.Heck, the tag line is "A love story". Let's not forget the adorable Ryan Gosling! How can one turn it down?

You must turn it down, unless you are looking to be depressed. Very depressed.

It is such a realistic depiction of modern relationships, it is fantastic, the acting is amazing, but it was so sad. SO SAD!

Let's just say that I spend half of the movie cringing, hoping it would all end soon because it was so true to life that it hurt.

Get Happy

My post yesterday was a little depressing.

Sorry.

I should have been optimistic and hopeful for the new year, sharing with you my resolutions and hopes for the next 365 days.

I would do it today, but I'm still in a very crappy mood.

Let's just say one of these days I hope to be positive again and will at that time share happy tidings for the new year. Until then, let's say my resolution is to get happy.

Anything and everything a chap can unload...

Kids, the Holidays were exhausting this year. I think it means I'm a real "adult". Why? Because it felt like work. I spent half of my trip home at the hospital with my grandmother. I am happy to report that she is doing better, but still not 100%. We'll see how her doctor appointment goes this week.

The CTA still hates me, I really thought this year we could put our past issues aside and become friends, but at 4am New Years day I was kicked of the "L" for an unexplained "emergency". Then, yesterday, my bus wasn't running for another unexplained "emergency". Maybe I will take up biking or running in 2011. It has to be better than just standing at a platform or bus stop freezing my butt off.

Anyhow, I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!
