Dark Days?

I am a *little* freaked out by the swine virus. I really hope none of the international guests I have been working with are going to spread it to me. That would make me sad. Especially if it killed me.

And to make matters worst I just found out that Bea Arthur died! She was only 86! If you want to learn a little more about her check out this story.

I really don't want to go to work today...

If you're going to be afraid of something killing you, be afraid of something that might actually kill you.

20 people in the US have it out of 303,824,640. 6 in Canada have it out of 33,212,696.

The only people that have died were in Mexico. And unless you're trying to say that your upscale department store is the equivalent to a small Mexican city, you have nothing to worry about.

You are way more likely to get hit by a car while crossing the street. Or shot while walking to work.

Don't worry. It is seriously nothing. Society always needs something to fear and this is our fear of the week.

Remember bird flu? Remember West Nile Virus? Ebola? You didn't die any of those times either. You will be fine.

Besides, I don't think any of your customers have ever seen a real pig in their entire life.

It's not like deaths from influenza are rare. The CDC estimated that about 36,000 people died of flu-related causes each year, on average, during the 1990s in the United States. There are no exact numbers, because influenza isn't usually something put on a death certificate considering the person usually develops a second infection (such as pneumonia) or the influenza aggravates an existing condition which ultimately causes death.

Like Rachel said, there's absolutely no need to panic considering you can't hide in your house to avoid it. This isn't passed by food like salmonella is and it isn't passed by mosquitoes like West Nile is so the only way you could be absolutely sure you don't get it is to avoid ALL CONTACT with people ... which, um, isn't possible. So, just take care of your health in the same way you would to avoid any sickness and you will be fine.
